The Coach

During her professional career of 27 years, Marietjie worked as executive manager with board level responsibilities in various industry sectors both in South Africa and in Europe. She started her career as a counselling psychologist at the University of the North-West and commenced her corporate career with the Development Bank of Southern Africa, in the role of In-house Psychologist. Marietjie was part of the pioneering of mobile telephony in South Africa and spearheaded the establishment of the full human resources operation for Vodacom’s first cellular service provider in the country.

Thereafter she gained extensive experience in the insurance industry whilst working for Allianz AG in South Africa and in Műnchen, Germany. She understands the world of the expatriate and working in culturally diverse environments. Subsequently, she moved into the agriculture sector and gained experience in Hans Merensky Holdings (HMH) with their forestry, sawmilling and subtropical fruit growing businesses. HMH runs operations in Europe and South America. The challenges of this environment shaped her skills in assisting managers to deal with the stresses of operating across continents and dealing with people and diversity at home front.

Marietjie has an in-depth understanding of all functions pertaining to Human Resources and People Management in various industries in the corporate environment. As the custodian of human resources policies in the organisation, she has experiencing in dealing with transgressions from prescribed corporate policy. Her knowledge and understanding of labour law matters, the functioning of the CCMA and internal mediation procedures, makes her ideal to assist organisations who are faced with highly sensitive transgressions of corporate policy. Marietjie holds a diploma in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the University of Pretoria and the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA).

Marietjie is now working as n independent Consultant, Coaching Psychologist and Executive Coach. She is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a counselling psychologist. Other memberships to professional organisations include: International Member of the Society for Coaching Psychologists (IMSCP); the Institute of Directors (IOD); the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA); (SIOPSA) the Society of Industrial and Organisational Psychologists as well as (COMENSA) Coaches and Mentors of South Africa.

As a trained and registered psychologist, and a Human Resource Executive who has been working in the corporate world for many years, she has gained a wealth of experience on the requirements to successfully operate in the business environment. Throughout her career, Marietjie has mentored and coached people at all levels. Many of these engagements centred on conflict management, involuntary and voluntary separations, displacements, and other highly sensitive matters. Her background as registered psychologist and the ethical code that she abides by had assisted her to successfully manage these interventions.
