Coaching offered by The Coaching Psychologist is a supportive one-on-one relationship with the primary aim to enhance the overall wellbeing and performance of a “normal” or non-clinical person (the coachee) in his/her personal life and/or work domains. Coaching by the Coaching Psychologist is the active practice of coaching psychology by a registered psychologist and is underpinned by psychological models of coaching that are grounded in established adult learning theory and research.

How do I know that coaching is appropriate for me?

Coaching is appropriate when you have identified that you have a complex development need that may be best met through a one-on-one helping process. If other interventions such as training have not delivered the desired outcome in time coaching may be a suitable alternative. Coaching is an option when a just-in-time solution is possible and desirable. Ultimately coaching is suitable when the individual is receptive and open to the idea of being coached.

How do I select the ideal Coach?

There should be chemistry between the coachee and the coach for the coaching relationship to be successful. This chemistry is based on rapport but at the same time the coach should be able to challenge the coachee to grow. How are the Coaching Goals determined?

It is essential to obtain common understanding and agreement between the stakeholders involved. This agreement should concern the scope or the purpose of the coaching engagement and the relationship to other relevant organisational and personal goals, processes and strategies. What are the terms and conditions?

The coach and the coachee enter into a coaching agreement prior to commencing the coaching relationship. The coaching agreement sets out the terms and conditions of the relationship and details amongst other things: the cost per session; the duration of a session; the number of sessions, the period over which the sessions should be conducted, payment arrangements, confidentiality, termination and breach.

What is the length of a coaching session and how often do I meet with the coach?

Duration and frequency of the coaching sessions are agreed prior to commencement of the coaching and depend on the type of goals and processes undertaken in the coaching. Sessions normally take place over a six to twelve months period but shorter and longer term engagements can also be undertaken. The length of a coaching session varies between 60 to 120 minutes.

How Confidential is the Coaching Process

Issues of confidentiality are core considerations in setting up the coaching engagement. All coaching conversations and related notes are strictly confidential to the coach and the coachee and are not shared with other stakeholders. All information shared in the coaching is owned by the coachee and unless superseded by a higher ethical principle, the coachee manages if and how that information may be shared.
